Europeiske besteforeldre til Oslo

Besteforeldrenes klimaaksjon bidro høsten 2023 til å etablere en sammenslutning av europeiske besteforeldre som har dannet European Grandparents for Climate (EGC). I august har vi invitert dette nettverket til en stor konferanse i Oslo, for å styrke og utvikle aksjonssamarbeidet vårt. – Se intervju med noen av deltakerne her.

Generalsekretær Andrew Kroglund har forventninger til konferansen i Oslo, som han tror kan bidra til at det europeiske nettverket blir en kraft i årene som kommer, og som kan influere Europaparlamentet og EUs Green Deal. EGC har medlemsorganisasjoner fra over 12 ulike land, og har ambisjoner om å vokse.
– For BKA er dette et stort løft, selvsagt. Men vi er den eldste og største av medlemsorganisasjonene, og det var derfor naturlig for oss å ta dette initiativet. Oppmerksomhet rundt konferansen håper vi også vil påvirke opinionen og valget her til lands. Valgkampen vil være i innspurten, og vi skal ha med oss de internasjonale gjestene på den store «Stå opp»-demonstrasjonen som er planlagt lørdag 30. august. Den går over hele landet, over 30 organisasjoner står bak, og vi tror oppslutningen vil bli veldig god – og inspirerende for de besøkende!

Name of your organization: Grands-parents pour le climat – Klima-Grosseltern Schweiz https://www.gpclimat.ch/fr/
Why did you join the organization? Actually, I took part from the beginning in the discussions that lead to the creation in 2014 of the Association Grand-parents pour le climat. I wanted to engage actively in the climate that our children and grandchildren will inherit.
What are the main topics your organization concentrates on? We are globally interested in climate policy and try to put pressure on political and economic circles. We are engaged in issues like sustainable food, an ethical digital world and Earth overshoot day.
Why did your organization join the EGC?  In order to strengthen the voice of the grandparents for the climate at an international level, exchange information and cooperation.
What do you expect to get out of the Oslo summit? To learn more about the work of the EGC and to meet the members of the other associations and exchange with them. I also look forward to learning about Oslo’s strategy in the field of emissions.

Name of your organization: Klimagrosseltern Schweiz/Grandparents pour le Climat
Why did you join the organization? I wanted to engage myself in the fight for climate system change and biodiversity in Switzerland
What are the main topics your organization concentrates on?
We have 16 regional groups that engage in topics that are important for the environment in their cities, communities, cantons, etc. We support political activities on national, regional and town level. We engage in good cooking and eating habits for climate – this is a nationwide project. We undertake street actions and demonstrations, like black Fridays and the overshoot day.
Why did your organization join the EGC?
We would like to learn from each other. What happens in Europe on climate issues is important also for Switzerland.
What do you expect to get out of the Oslo summit?
A sense of strengthened identity, learning from each other’s activities, finding a common strategy for engaging politically on a European level.
